Adopt-A-Dancer Program

The Adopt a Dancer Program functions as a non profit organization that has a mission to enrich the cultural lives of children while providing technical excellence in highly creative forms of dance. Our dedicated students bring choreography to life and have performed at various venues throughout New Jersey, including the African American Festival at the PNC Arts Center and at the Governor’s Mansion for the inauguration of Juneteenth Day. Throughout the past eight years, the program has supported students in the Arts regardless of their financial situation through a rigorous, yet developmentally appropriate program and the generosity of the founder Michele R. Burrell. The Academy has an open door policy that provides free classes for any child in the Monmouth County Foster Care Program with a desire to learn the art of dance.

This program has helped to fund the dreams of many Academy students who have auditioned and been accepted to various summer intensive programs. Children in the academy have had amazing successes and each and every graduate student has gone on to higher education both in dance and in the related arts. Such institutions of higher education to which some of our alumni have been accepted include, Howard, Temple, Tuskegee, Kean, Rutgers and St. John’s Universities as well as California Institute of the Arts and Spellman College. In addition Ursinus College of Pennsylvania has partnered with the Asbury Park Technical Academy of Dance for a scholarship program that offers eligible students scholarship funding in the amount of $20,000.00 per year to attend their college. It is awarded to three (3) of the Academy’s top dance students per year.

Adopt a Dancer has a sponsorship program which relies on the generosity of various businesses, individuals, organizations and companies to sponsor or donate funds to children who attend the Academy. Such donations are used for merit and needs-based scholarships that cover dance-related expenses including tuition, dance apparel and transportation for students. Our goal is to raise enough funds to provide for any student whose goal is to strive for excellence. All gifts of any size are welcome. Today you can make a difference in the life of an aspiring dancer.

Please send your gift of generosity to sponsor a child. Just as “a mind is a terrible thing to waste”, so are the innate talents of our children who are merely seeking opportunities to express themselves and ensure that they are engaged in positive endeavors that enhance their lives. If you need further information, or should you desire to book the Junior Company for a performance, please call: (732) 774-4557.
